Book Review – Cibola Burn

Cibola Burn (The Expanse, #4)Cibola Burn by James S.A. Corey

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cibola Burn is the fourth book in the series that spawned the television show, The Expanse. In Cibola Burn, the crew of the Rocinante travels through the alien gate to Ilus, a distant world, to assist the colonists–and wouldn’t you know it, prejudice and treachery are already there.

The show follows the book pretty well, but there are slight differences in the book that make things more plausible. For instance, the appearance of the death slugs makes much more sense in the book. Also, on the television show, Holden jumps into a hole in the floor and falls for hours. Long enough to take a nap. In the book, he’s on a mine train. He still takes a nap, and he still gets to the same place. Perhaps the set for a mine train was difficult to create.

All in all, Cibola Burn is a worthy addition to the series and will be enjoyed by science fiction enthusiasts as well as fans of the television show.
